Want to get your first paying coaching clients? It’s not easy getting leads by just running a webinar or masterclass or even a free lead magnet. The truth is, most coaches and consultants get stuck with trying to get coaching clients in because they’re just waiting for clients to come to them. You can’t wait for clients to come in, you have to go out and get them.

For all the online coaches out there, whether you are a consultant, career coach, life coach, mindset coach, leadership coach, or any kind of online coach, your competition has more than doubled over the last two to three years, so you must be able to cut through the noise of the online space and truly show your ideal prospects that you can help them achieve the outcome that they need.

Here are the five ways to get coaching clients easily in today’s market.

  1. Research your ideal prospects

You have to know the answer to these three essential things:

  • What are their fears and frustrations? What keeps them up at night? What is the main struggle that they are facing right now?
  • What are their wants and desires? What do they want on a conscious or subconscious level?
  • What have they tried in the past to fix the issue that they’re having? Did it work or didn’t it work, and why?

By answering these questions, you are getting deeper to understand what their problems and challenges are, what they want, and how you could bridge the gap between where they are and ultimately where they want to be with your offer or solution.

  1. Create an offer that bridges the gap.

Think of this as Hell Island versus Heaven Island.

Hell island is where they are now – they’re stuck, frustrated, and have things that are keeping them up at night.

Heaven Island is where they ultimately want to be – their desires, wants and the ideal picture of their life or business.

Create an offer that bridges the gap from Hell Island to Heaven island.

  1. Reach out to ideal prospects through a direct message.

As mentioned at the beginning, the reason why most coaches don’t get paying clients in the door is that they are just waiting for leads to come to them. You have to go out and message your ideal prospects using an effective formula. The message that you send to your ideal prospects needs to resonate with their problems, frustrations, and fears, and it needs to show them what the ideal solution is for them to get out of Hell Island and into Heaven Island. You’re then going to end with a clear call to action to get on a call with you. You don’t need a landing page, a website, or a large social media following to do this. You can use LinkedIn or other social media platforms like Facebook groups or Instagram to DM your ideal clients.

Here’s a good example of a message:

Glad we’re connected, Jen.

If you’ve been stuck in a nine to five that you hate with no job security, toxic culture, and loathing to get into work on a Monday, this may be of interest to you.

Stuck professionals come to me when they’re ready for their next big career move.

If this sounds like you, I’d love to connect. What day/time works best for a free consultation?

As you can see in this message we called out specific pain points that our ideal client has. We then positioned ourselves as the solution and then we ended with that call to action to get on a call with us.

  1. Dive deeper into their problem and give them a glimpse of what it would be like to work with you.

Once you’ve got your ideal prospect on a call, dive deeper into their problem. Get to know why they’ve been stuck in hell island for so long, what else they’ve tried, and what their frustrations are, and you wanna give them a glimpse of what it would be like to work with you.

  1. Present your offer and close them.

Position your offer as the best next step to get them from Hell island to Heaven Island. You must get comfortable with sales, moving your prospect from the call to the close where you collect their credit card information and enroll them as a client. Do not be shy here. The prospect needs a solution to their problem and they are getting on a call hoping that you are that solution, so don’t be afraid to close the prospect to present your offer and tell them what the next steps are to work with you.

RECAP – What are the five steps to get coaching clients into your business?

  • Research your ideal prospect. Get clear on their fears and frustrations, wants and desires, what else they’ve tried in the past and why it did or didn’t work.
  • Create an offer that bridges the gap. Identify how you can best solve your ideal prospect’s needs by creating a bridge between Hell Island, where they are now stuck and frustrated, to Heaven Island, where they are in their dream, wants and desires.
  • Reach out to your ideal prospect through a direct message. This could be a message on LinkedIn, Instagram, or Facebook. Call out what their pain points are, and offer them a solution with a clear call to action to get on a call with you.
  • Get on a call with them and dive deeper into their problems, giving them a glimpse of what it would be like to work with you.
  • Present your offer and close the prospect.
